New richness
It’s important to have constants in life. It’s also good and useful to have novelty. Today is not here just so it can be an exact repeat of yesterday. Honor each new day by filling it with new experience and substance. Don’t hold yourself back by keeping yourself imprisoned in the same old routine. Outside that routine are great and wonderful possibilities waiting to be explored. Be satisfied with how far you’ve come, and eager to keep on going in new and exciting ways. Life’s beauty knows no limit, so don’t limit yourself to what you’re already familiar with. Seek out new things to do and new ways to do them. Enjoy discovering new challenges, new opportunities and new ways to create new forms of value. Life begins again in every moment. Use the opportunity to add new and fulfilling richness to your world. — Ralph Marston

The Trilogy Syndrome….. Where Are You Now??

Yesterday’s Unsung episode definitely put me on a new perspective. I’m no slouch when it comes to Hip Hop history, but I’ve got to admit, before yesterday, my greatest memory of Kool Moe Dee was “the fool who picked a fight with L.L. and ruined his career”. That’s not to say that I didn’t respect his skills…but I think that move may have hastened his exit from the Hip Hop scene. At the time, L.L. was an up and coming young buck, Moe Dee could have easily co-existed as a living legend with his talent level. But the show helped me  understand why it happened. I knew Moe Dee was no fool. His intellect was evident in the music he created; and so was his ego. It was his ego that pushed him into the battle he couldn’t win. I learned that Moe Dee was an innovator, creator, and purveyor of style. He made his way…and did it his way. What I also learned though, was that Moe Dee is a man of principle. It felt good to hear the story of a man who made music, instead of the story of a music made man. After watching so many artists fall from grace…so ungracefully, it was good to see a Brother up to the challenge. On behalf of Moguls and Hip Hop fans all over the world, thanks for respecting the Crown you wear. My hat tips…
